Dr. John A Berges is an Associate Professor in the Department of Biological Sciences and School of Freshwater Sciences at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Dr. Berges studies planktonic organisms in the upper part of the water column of Lake Michigan. After harvesting the organisms from the lake, Dr. Berges grows and studies them in controlled environments to determine how the presence of various nutrients influences their growth and distribution patterns. The goal is to create models that predict how these organisms are influenced, and in turn themselves influence, the ecosystem of Lake Michigan.
