California based Imagine H2O announced that Water Council member PaveDrain, LLC is one of the finalists of its fourth annual Consumer Innovation competition. PaveDrain is competing for the Prize for Water Startups. Finalists will now advance to a second round where the businesses will compete for over $200,000 in cash and in-kind services. Final results will be announced in conjunction with World Water Day in March 2013.
Over 70 startup companies from 12 countries submitted entries to this year’s Consumer Innovation competition. “The global field represented a diverse range of personalized solutions to water challenges related to quality, efficiency and access in both developed and developing economies.”
Imagine H2O’s judging panel, which includes some of the water sector’s leading experts, based their selection of the finalists on market opportunity, customer value proposition, go-to market strategy, financial plan, and general quality of presentation and pitch.
PaveDrain was a finalist in the Early Revenue Track for its work in mitigating storm water through arched paving bricks. PaveDrain incorporates a Permeable Articulating Concrete Block/Mat (P-ACB/M) and arch design that can be filled with storm-water runoff while simultaneously providing strength for heavy vehicular loads. Its demonstrated ability in facilitating a natural infiltration path recharges local groundwater and reduces first flush pollutants.
“We are thrilled to be named a finalist in the Imagine H2O contest.” Said Doug Buch, President of PaveDrain. “The next 12 months are going to be very exciting, we have hundreds of projects scheduled to be designed with the PaveDrain System throughout the U.S. including commercial and municipal parking lots, alleyways, state owned Park-N-Rides, residential driveways, and even a portions of city streets.”
